Society Captain 2022/23/24
Richard Satchell
Welcome to our web site
Established in 1960 and acquiring its name from the Wheatsheaf public house where the society was formed. The Society is based in Essex and its sole purpose apart from having fun and a real good get together is to play the best courses in Essex. This was the Society’s initial philosophy and remains true to this very day! It is a society steeped in its own tradition but reflective of the changes in the modern game and approach to the game.
We elect a new captain each year in September and it is the new captain’s first responsibility to select 5 premier courses in Essex, in his esteemed opinion, that we will play the coming year. No democracy here then!!
We compete for prizes and in addition for trophies and cups that have in some cases been awarded going back as far 1960, the Wheatsheaf Trophy for example. What a thought, to have your name engraved on this trophy along with all the other winners going back over 50 years!!
Five meetings are held each year; the society has its own handicap system and plays a Stableford competition with first and second place prizes plus a team prize. Once the golfing is done we retire to discuss our day and enjoy a meal followed by the prize presentation.
